****Postponed****** The Rainforest Network will be holding a 'Restoration Blitz' in a beautiful Rainforest at Nungerner (see pics below) on March the 8th at 10am. We will meet at the Jetty and go from there.

Our main activity will involve the hand removal of Mirror Bush seedlings from a remnant area of Littoral Rainforest.

We will also be exploring the rainforest area with local experts. So its a great opportunity to lend a hand and learn some stuff about Rainforests at the same time!

All welcome, no prior experience necessary. For further information contact Tom Crook 0417 557 114

Martins Creek rainforest restoration working bee Martins Creek rainforest restoration working bee

Working Bee this weekend to kick off our Martins Creek Rainforest restoration project- All welcome!

The Rainforest Network will team up with volunteers from the Goongerah Landcare Group this coming weekend to start weed mapping and fire recovery works in the rainforest's of Martins Creek, North of Orbost and encourage anyone interested to come along and lend a hand.

Rainforest Network facilitator, Tom Crook, explained that the group had recently been awarded a Regional Landcare Grant to undertake restoration works in the rainforest, part of which suffered severe fire damage last summer. “Martins Creek is one of a number of nationally significant rainforest areas in Easy Gippsland Tom said. Its core area survived the fire event but sections of the rainforest canopy have been radically altered.

We are concerned that weeds will now take over the burnt area before natural regeneration can occur so this weekend we plan to map and control the weeds in the area above where the fire burnt into the rainforest to stop them spreading further into the burnt area and next year continue this work down the catchment.

We will be meeting at the corner of Mallins Track and the Bonang Rd at 10am this Saturday, Nov. 22nd. Anyone interested in helping, being a part of this project and/or learning more about this important rainforest area is encouraged to attend! For more info call the Rainforest Network on 0417 557 114

Rainforest working bee/workshop

Lakes Entrance Community Landcare Group will team up with the East Gippsland Rainforest Conservation Management Network for a rainforest ‘restoration blitz’ as part of the ongoing important conservation works in the Kalimna Gully Rainforests at Jetty Rd, Lakes Entrance.

This a great opportunity for anyone wanting to learn about local rainforests. We will be installing new erosion control structures (logs made from natural fibre) into Kalimna Gully to slow the passage of water and trap sediment before it gets to the lakes. As well as doing some weeding and looking at our works program of 2015.

ALL WELCOME

We do all we can to increase the amount of rainforest and associated vegetation types subject to restoration, conservation and permanent protection in East Gippsland.

We do this by:

Establishing and maintaining of an active network of people who share a common interest in rainforest and associated vegetation types in East Gippsland.

Maintaining a properly structured and operational organisation to service its members and other key stakeholders.

Promote information sharing, awareness and education

Running ecologically based rainforest restoration projects and assisting in the management of rainforest sites and associated vegetation communities.

Promotion of community and government awareness to the unique and important contribution that rainforests and associated vegetation types make to the regions biodiversity;

Acting to increase the number and area of rainforest sites that are permanently protected and actively managed through a range of mechanisms

Facilitate information sharing and educational opportunities to enhance network participants and community understanding of rainforests ecosystems and their management.

Develop projects to restore, maintain and manage rainforests ecosystems. (This includes all aspects of project management including funding acquisition, project identification, planning, implementation and monitoring.)

Broaden membership of the Network to include all private and public land managers. East Gippsland retains some of the most significant stands of rainforest left in Victoria that have both state and national significance.
