A good article link was sent around by the Northern Alliance for Greenhouse Action this morning.
The southern West Australian town of Denmark is leading the way on community renewable energy.
Are more Australian towns set to follow suit?

Hi everyone, you may have come across an event being run by Committee for Gippsland. It's a lunch and keynote speech by the Victorian Minister for Small Business, Energy and Resources, the Hon Russell Northe, MP. A Future Gippsland Group Discussion on the future of Gippsland’s energy and resources sector will be held from 11am to 12.30pm, with the lunch, keynote speech and question and answer session from 12.30pm to 2.00pm on Friday 5 September in Traralgon. It is $45 for the lunch and session. I have uploaded the flyer about the event including the registration details on the information page.
Hi folks. I've just uploaded my report on the Community Energy Congress I attended on behalf of Sustainability Gippsland and the Energy Innovation Cooperative. My report focusses on the National Energy Market and how some recent and proposed changes to the NEM rules might positively impact on community energy proponents. Check it out on the 'Information' tab of the Community Energy Congress page of Sustainability Gippsland. Enjoy!

Individuals and organisations across southern Gippsland are working together to investigate community-owned renewable energy project options for our area.
We’re looking for interested parties to share their skills and join us to form the Southern Gippsland Community Energy Committee.
If you are interested in community energy and have skills to offer, we’d love you to join us.

Community-owned renewable energy generation facilities are common in the US and Europe, yet there are only two currently up and running in Australia - two wind turbines as part of the Hepburn Wind project in Victoria, and another two at Denmark Community Wind Farm in south-west Western Australia.
What are the prospects of Gippsland joining these two? What are the barriers we face? What are the steps we need to take if we want to develop community energy locally?
These and many other questions will be answered at the first of what will hopefully be a series of forums on community energy.
Hear from some of the many Gippsland residents and community leaders who attended the inaugural Community Energy Congress in Canberra in June 2014, including the Mayor of Bass Coast Shire, Cr Neil Rankine, the Chair of Gippsland's Energy Innovation Co-Operative, Susan Davies, and Brad Kijlstra-Shone, also on the Board of the Co-op.
They will give a first-hand report on the Congress and discuss with attendees how community energy projects may be possible in the context of current state and federal government policy settings. An update on the South Melbourne Market roof-top community initiative plus other projects being planned for Melbourne will be included, including lessons learned from the Hepburn Wind Co-operative.
This group was formed as a follow up action from the Community Energy Congress held in Canberra in June 2014. A number of Gippslanders attended the congress and the purpose of this group is to enable the discussions that were started at the congress to continue.
Our aim is to set up community owned renewable energy systems across Gippsland. Let's support each other with this ambitious but achievable goal.
