Want to learn more about your local birds and their habitat? Here is your chance to join local experts from the Latrobe Valley Field Naturalists Club who really know their bird species and how to spot them.
We will start with a delicious breakfast then small groups will be led through a 2.5 km bird watching walk observing and learning what’s using the Red Gum woodland around Toongabbie.

The Red Gum woodland has lots of fauna that live in the hollows of these old trees and Jim Reside of Wildlife Unlimited will show us who is living in this area between Morwell, Rosedale and Cowwarr. Following the presentation we will head out with torches for a guided spotlight tour in a reserve. We will be setting up Elliot traps in the reserve which will be checked the next morning in another session. Ken Harris from the Latrobe Valley Field Naturalists will also be setting up a night light to help us check out the local Moth population. Venue: Traralgon (including a local reserve). Have you been on a guided bird-watching session with a professional before? Here is your chance to get to know the birds that call the local Red Gum Grassy Woodland that stretches from Morwell to Bairnsdale home. Run by professional wildlife consultant Jim Reside of Wildlife Unlimited. A delicious breakfast will be provided after the walk, at about 9.30 am.

On Wednesday the 17th at 6pm, Jim Reside of Wildlife Unlimited is giving a presentation on the "Cryptic Fauna of the Red Gum Plains". This will be a great opportunity to learn about the local species that aren't so familiar. After the presentation there will be on opportunity to see for yourself what is out there with a guided spotlight tour and fauna survey in a nearby reserve. Jim will be setting up Elliot traps, demonstrating Bat detection equipment and providing his animal spotting expertise. There is a second session the next morning from 8am to 9am where traps set the night before will be checked and Jim will share his knowledge on how to identify animal tracks and traces. Numbers of people attending will be capped to ensure a great experience, so register ASAP to avoid missing out. This free event is sponsored by Energy Australia and suitable for all ages.

The Warragul & District Landcare Group is hosting a rabbit proof fencing workshop/working bee at an address to be confirmed (but will be in Warragul). The group has lots of experience in working together to control the rabbit population in the peri-urban area of Warragul and hosting workshops to help people get better skilled to tackle the feral rabbit problem.
