A big thank you to those who attended our latest screening of the Years of Living Dangerously last week. It is often challenging to face some of the issues raised in the film, but change begins with a first step and a commitment to keep going. Having said that, here is a good article from The Conversation on the outcomes of the UN climate talks in Paris - https://theconversation.com/five-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-paris-climate-deal-52256 . So how do we help our government keep these promises, well as their constituents it is important to let them know that climate change action it is important to us and that we are also taking action at home.

On the night I said that I had some links to follow on from what happened wih Superstorm Sandy. What happened when super Storm Sandy hit the US was very much a human tragedy, but also created a much larger question about how we manage these events. Do we retreat or do we engineer solutions such as protective barriers? Here is a great comment piece from the collaborative The Conversation https://theconversation.com/sea-level-rise-is-real-which-is-why-we-need-to-retreat-from-unrealistic-advice-51051?utmmedium=email&utmcampaign=Latest+from+The+Conversation+for+December+4+2015+-+3929&utmcontent=Latest+from+The+Conversation+for+December+4+2015+-+3929+CIDde389334517bd02b5937c785d14bb8ed&utmsource=campaignmonitor&utm_term=how%20we%20can%20change This is the direct link to a short TV piece giving an insight to the on the ground individual experience of those homeowners on the storm's front line. https://youtu.be/1pW5MZFU0E8

And finally, I have just been notified of a community member who is hoping to show a film called "This Changes Everything" on January 24. Here is what she has written and the link to the event tickets. It will only go ahead if she gets a certain number of tickets which is about 25, so it would be great to support her in this endeavour.

"Hello everyone, As you will possibly be aware I am concerned about the impact that climate change will have on the planet and the future of our children and grandchildren. I have read Naomi Klein's brilliant (but large) book This Changes Everything which provides the knowledge needed to be informed about the impact as well as some things we can all do to make things better. In order to share this information I am hosting a one-time screening of the documentary film, THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING based on the book, at the:

Leongatha Stadium 4 Cinema on Sunday 24th January 2015 at 7.10pm

To reserve your tickets please visit the Tugg Events Page - www.tugg.com/events/81870 My Tugg event requires a set number of tickets to be sold in order for the screening to go ahead so your credit card will not be charged until that number is reached. If you are not interested, or cannot make it yourself, I would greatly appreciate it if you could spread the word. The more people who care about this the more chance there will be to make the changes necessary. Any monies left over will go to The Australian Conservation Foundation.

Thank you so much for your help with this, Nola"
