Stratford Primary School is a small school of about 100 students situated in the rural shire of Wellington in Central Gippsland. The school has a strong focus on environmental education. In 2011 Stratford Primary School started the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program where all students learn about growing produce in our school gardens and then use this to cook meals each week. In 2012, the Waste Module of the Resource Smart Aussi Vic Program was undertaken. Each class has compost and worm farm buckets and paper recycling. Trashless Tuesdays are held and regular waste audits monitor the school’s attempts to reduce waste. Stratford Primary School has been involved in the RACV Energy Breakthrough Challenge (Human Powered Vehicle) for many years – another extra curriculum program which encompasses sustainability practices.
