Just last year the price for oil on the world market has, for the first time passed $100 a barrel. The Age of Cheap Energy is over and Peak Oil is on the horizon, whether it be now, in 2 years, or by 2030.

Experts worldwide stress the importance of early and sustained preparation, pointing to the fact that there is not currently any energy source available that can fully substitute for petroleum.

The sooner we can acknowledge that and can start to engage our collective creativity, the less likely it is that we will sink into despondency, blame-seeking and powerlessness, and the more likely it is that we will unleash the most extraordinary and historic transition in history.

The Transition Town Initiative is all about developing fun, highly local ways of, reducing energy consumption, adopting sustainable skills, practices and technologies building better, more resilient communities and taking charge of our own live to cope successfully in a world after oil- a Post Carbon Community.

The Transition Initiative was started in England by Rob Hopkins and has now been adopted in 500+ locations around the globe.
