Join the walk to Morwell for a Just Transition in the Latrobe Valley! September 19 - 26, 2016 Register here http://earthworkercooperative.com.au/walk-with-the-valley/

We are walking in solidarity with people in the Valley, and calling on our government to commit to concrete plans to support sustainable livelihoods and the environment.

This is about the Valley, but it's also about all of us. The health of our climate and our communities depends on swift and drastic action. And we are prepared to go a long way to make this happen (100km to be exact!)

While the Andrews Government has indicated general support for transition in the Valley, the time is ripe to demonstrate that we are ready for them to consult with the community and commit to a plan of action.

We are calling for the government to:

  • Follow through on practical solutions that will ensure dignified and sustainable jobs in the Valley, both now and for future generations.
  • Support Eathworker to establish the first worker-owned green manufacturing cooperative, Eureka's Future Workers Cooperative, in Morwell.

What's in store for the walk

  • You'll be able to sign up for part of the walk, or go for the whole 100km from Pakenham to Morwell over 7 days.
  • Pace suitable for different fitness levels
  • Opportunity for activities, games, music and time to socialize and relax
  • Meet with local groups to learn and build solidarity along the way

Get sponsors and help build the road to green jobs in the Valley All walkers will be able to set up a page to collect donations to sponsor their walk. Proceeds will help Eureka's Future Workers Cooperative establish their new premises in Morwell, creating the first of hopefully many worker-owned green businesses in the Valley.

Volunteering & how you can help Even though we don't start walking until the 20th of July, the journey has already begun and there's lots of ways to get involved. Every little bit counts, so if you'd like to lend a hand, drop us a line at contact[at]earthworkercooperative.com.au.

Also, please get in touch if you know places or groups on the way that we could visit or who could shelter us for a night. We'll be walking from Pakenham to Morwell via Nar Nar Goon, Bunyip, Drouin, Warragul, Yarragon and Moe, so it would be great to connect to locals along the way.

What's next? http://earthworkercooperative.com.au/walk-with-the-valley/ Please register and pay a deposit to confirm your place on the walk. We are keeping costs as low as possible but will be asking walkers to contribute $15-20 per day towards food etc. If you are unable to pay this amount but would like to join the walk get in touch at contact[at]earthworkercooperative.com.au

After you RSVP, go to walkwiththevalley.org to set up your fundraising profile. We will being sending out more information as we finalise the logistics, and will also be asking you to fill us in on your details (how far you plan to walk, dietary requirements, etc), so keep an eye on your email for updates!

Thanks again, and we'll see you on the road!
